Our Newest Blend: London Fog!

midwestchai

It's been out for a few weeks now, but I want to make it official: we have a new tea powder blend! I am SO thrilled with our London Fog chai blend. I have wanted to make this for a long time and it is finally here. This one felt like a huge personal win.

For the uninitiated: London Fog is a tea latte that combines Earl Grey tea with vanilla. Add milk and sweetener and the result is a smooth, citrus-based, delicious tea latte that is incredible any time of year. Personally, I really got into this tea after trying some at Craft'd coffee shop, downtown Cedar Rapids. Shout out to Amanda, Grace, and the whole team there because they make an AMAZING London Fog, among other delicious drinks! I go there weekly just for their latte and, I'll admit, the standard they set with their drinks is the standard I wanted to meet when I set out to create my London Fog tea powder blend.

The base of a London Fog is a really good Earl Grey. Earl Grey is a black tea that has been around since at least the 1820's in England (so you know this is legit stuff). Vastly popular and standing the test of time, the origins of this tea are a bit murky but the basic facts seem to be that it is named after the Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and the Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1830-1834. How is Earl Grey made? Simply add oil of Bergamot to black tea.

For as confident as I was that I could figure this blend out, and considering it has the fewest ingredients of all my tea powder blends so far, I'll admit it was the most difficult to get just right. I was surprised by that; I thought it'd take a day or two of tweaking but this one took a couple of weeks. I am so pleased that I stuck with it, though, because I am really proud of the final product. The oil of Bergamot is not overpowering, nor is the vanilla. There is a subtle sweetness to this blend that can work great on it's own or be emboldened by a splash of sweetener to really bring that unique Bergamot flavoring out. I also added just a bit of lemon peel powder to bring forward those hints of citrus.

In the end, the journey was worth every step and the destination felt complete, as all good adventures are. I encourage you to start your own adventure with this amazing new tea powder blend from Midwest Chai!

Always remember to chai your own way!

Warmly,

Aaron
